MAHRP’s Service Training With Ron Kaufman attracts over 357



Maldives Association of Human Resource Professionals (MAHRP) on Saturday hosted an exclusive training event with world’s leading customer experience consultant Ron Kaufman.

Titled Secrets of Achieving Superior Service Excellence, the day-long training programme took place at the main auditorium of the Maldives National University in capital Male. A total of 357 representatives from over 87 companies operating in the Maldives attended the event, which was sponsored by local telecom giant Dhiraagu.



“We are humbled by the positive response. Our event was sold out 10 days before the event, and even on the event day we received requests for seats. Special thanks to all our participants as we all made it happen and most importantly our main event partner Dhiraagu was amazing,” MAHRP President Hussain Afeef, who serves as the Regional Director of Training, Development and Quality Assurance at LUX* Resorts, said.

“Special thanks also goes to Allied Insurance, Pro light Photography, Metal Signs, Print Lab, Salsa Royal and Event Maldives for their support in making this a success.”



During this event, Ron shared powerful insights on achieving a sustainable competitive advantage through uplifting service, which has delivered substantial business results in many major companies around the world. His vast experience and scope with customer service experience across a range of businesses, from government agencies to world-class multinational companies including Singapore Airlines, Changi International Airport, Xerox, Marina Bay Sands, Wipro, Singtel, American Express, HP and Nokia was also shared as a part of this learning experience.

NOKU MALDIVES SET TO OPEN IN AUGUST 2018



Noku Maldives has announced plans to open its shores to guests in August.

A corporate dinner was held at Hotel Jen in capital Male Thursday where the resort’s General Manager Justin Heng shared the exciting announcement with travel industry partners. A lucky draw was also taken, giving two winners complimentary stays at Noku Maldives as well as its sister property, Noku Kyoto in Japan.

Previously operated as Zitahli Kuda-Funafaru Resort by AAA Hotels and Resorts, Roxy-Pacific Holdings Ltd of Singapore acquired the leasehold interests of the island in 2016 from the local resort operator.

After extensive renovation of guest villas, public spaces and F&B outlets, the resort will open as Noku Maldives on August 1.

Located on the island of Kuda Funafaru in the northern Noonu atoll, Noku Maldives is accessible by a scenic 45-minute seaplane flight from the main Velana International Airport.



Nestled amidst luscious tropical greenery and enveloped by a peaceful blue lagoon are 20 beach villas and 30 overwater villas. Each spacious unit is designed to offer utmost privacy and fitted with modern amenities to provide comfort. The refined elegance of each villa with its soft white hues and dark wood accents complement the beauty of nature seen through large bay windows and french doors.





The spacious beachfront Palms Restaurant serves up à la carte and buffet-style dining, while the menu of Thari Restaurant features elements of Thai, Japanese and Singaporean cuisine — flavourful tastes of the countries where Noku hotels are located in. The Palms Bar allows guests to indulge in refreshing cocktails that blend Eastern and Western influences. Outrigger Konotta Maldives Resort has announced three new exciting developments for holidaymakers: a new mega value-added Family Getaway experience, an improved all-inclusive offering and a new all-inclusive plus package.

Registration opens for GM Forum 2018
Registration for the Hotelier Maldives GM Forum 2018 is now open as Perspective Pvt Ltd—the publisher of Hotelier Maldives—prepares for the event to be held at Kurumba Maldives on April 18, 2018. The GM Forum, an annual gathering of general managers and hospitality industry stakeholders, consists of keynote speeches from industry leaders and interactive panel discussions by experts on the Maldivian tourism and hospitality industry and the region.

Gili Lankanfushi reveals 2018 wellness programme


Luxury Maldivian eco-resort, Gili Lankanfushi, is debuting a revolutionary new wellness programme for 2018.

Four world-leading international wellness practitioners, working in areas as diverse as transformational breath-work, sound therapy, and hypnotherapy, will be leading island residencies throughout the year.

The will offer treatments and workshops for guests, and passing on their skills to the team at the island’s Meera Spa.

Hong Kong Airlines to fly to the Maldives from January



Hong Kong Airlines has announced it will operate a three-time weekly service to the Maldives from January 16th next year.

Located in the majestic Indian Ocean, the Maldives is comprised of a series of islands renowned for their natural beauty.



As a popular holiday hotspot, the islands that make up this exotic travel destination are blessed with white sandy beaches, and are surrounded by crystal clear water – home to a spectacular array of underwater life.

The perfect holiday begins even before passengers touch down at Malé, the capital of the Maldives.

Hong Kong Airlines will operate its Airbus A330-300 aircraft, which features a two-class configuration, including 32 full-flat seats in Business Class and 260 seats in Economy Class.

Combined with an immersive range of inflight entertainment content, and sumptuous gourmet meals in the air, Hong Kong Airlines is looking to deliver an unforgettable flight experience to all.

Wayne Wang, assistant director of commercial at Hong Kong Airlines, said: “The Maldives represents the perfect getaway for a growing number of travellers, having enjoyed a 5.9 per cent year-on-year growth during the first eight months of 2017, according to official statistics by the Ministry of Tourism (Republic of Maldives).

“Hong Kong Airlines is looking to meet this demand, as we strive to provide customers from Hong Kong and beyond with more choices than before.”

Flights will depart from Hong Kong to Malé International Airport every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.

Each traveller will receive a 30-day visa on arrival.

The flight time between Hong Kong and Malé is approximately six hours.

Surfing in Maldives

Thought the Maldives was only about lagoon-flat shallows? Think again - the Indian Ocean islands have glassy-clear waters and uncrowded waves, says world-class shortboarder Quincy Davis

'I grew up in Montauk, New York, so I'd spend every day at the beach with my family, who are all surfers. Once I'd started myself, I was hooked, and wanted to be in the water all the time, whatever the weather. I'd stay in a wetsuit the entire day, only taking a break to eat.

I'll go pretty much anywhere for good waves. It's a long journey from New York to the Maldives, but it's a great place to stay on a boat and wake up every morning at a new surf spot. I love the super-glassy point breaks you get, with almost no one else in the water. You are surrounded the whole time by small islands with palms trees lining the sand, and you feel so isolated. Surfing in the islands consists of lots of long, top to bottom, right points with plenty of push. The water is so clear you can see beautiful fish underneath the whole time you're in the line-up.

When I'm not surfing, I'm usually wakeskating or wakesurfing behind the boat - it's especially fun when the swell is minimal. I take a variety of wetsuits with me on trips, for example, two full suits and a handful of shorter spring ones. In the water, I love wearing a Volcom bikini under a Cynthia Rowley wetsuit.

To get me in competition mode, I usually listen to rap music by Kendrick Lamar or Jay-Z. I've also started listening to Future Islands - it's perfect for chilling out to, especially with a watermelon juice and tequila.'

10 New Resort Openings in Maldives


In the year 2018 or so is going to be a busy time for the hospitality trade in The Maldives. A clutch of 10 new hotels will fling open their doors throughout 2018 and into early 2019, expanding its already well-established portfolio of luxury resorts.

Much loved by tourists for its beaches, blue lagoons and extensive reefs tourism in the Maldives has been steadily growing and recent figures reveal that it is 7.9% up on the same time last year. To accommodate the influx of holidaymakers an impressive 20 resorts have opened since 2013, 20 new resorts have already opened.

World Travel Awards touches down in the Maldives


World Travel Awards has arrived in the Maldives as the finishing touches are put together in preparation of the Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony 2017.

The prestigious event will take place this Saturday, July 8th, at the five star Sun Aqua Vilu Reef, with hospitality leaders from across the region expected to attend to discover who among them has been voted the pinnacle of the travel industry.

Maldivian Idol hosts Moosa Waseem and Aminath Lamha Latheef – two of the most familiar faces on Maldivian television - will compere the event, which will also allow attendees to get in touch with authentic Maldivian culture through traditional dances such as Bandiya and Maafathi.

At 10 years old this is practically a veteran in the atolls, yet life here is as high octane as ever. Over Christmas and New Year Reethi Rah is basically a members' club, with villas booked over a year in advance. Even regulars who have been visiting devotedly at Easter and over all three half terms still can't get in. Families come with other families, grandparents bring grandchildren, three, sometimes four generations book adjoining villas, taking over one of the 12 beaches for themselves. It's the hottest ticket. Parents think nothing of demolishing a magnum of Domaine Ott over lunch while their children bounce between the two volleyball pitches, tennis courts, the football pitch for guests vs staff matches, the pottery school for crafts and clay work, an artist's studio for painting classes and a kids' club jam-packed with excitement. Here is an entire, enormous island for them to free-wheel around, pedalling over mini bridges, past giant chess sets, cartwheeling in and out of the family pool, climbing and sliding on the sea inflatables and kayaking in the see-through canoes. This relative newcomer is a real asset to the smart COMO brand. Its sister hotel in the Maldives is popular with couples and this one is aimed at the next stage: parenting. At the kids' club, four- to 12-year-olds can grow crystals, fold palm leaves into parrots and learn Dhivehi (well, a few words anyway). But they're just as likely go hunting for geckos or shark spotting, in keeping with COMO's new 'Play' philosophy, which encourages children to take charge. It's all about boosting confidence. For teens, there are plenty of watersports and desert-island hijinks plus getting down with dad at family yoga sessions if they (or you) are up for it. With shady gardens and plunge pools, and just a few steps from the sand, the beach villas are best for families. There's a natural, understated vibe throughout, and children won't eat this healthily anywhere in the archipelago: coconut, cinnamon and almond porridge for breakfast, lentil cakes with crushed avocado for tea. But really the joy of Maalifushi lies in its sensational spa, where parents are likely to disappear and emerge with a much higher patience threshold. The original 'no news, no shoes' Maldivian holiday was dreamt up by owners Sonu and Eva Shivdasani (him a former Etonian, her an ex-Vogue cover star) long before anyone else thought of barefoot luxury. But this place is also brilliant at keeping everyone happy on what is essentially a 100-acre fantasy family home with a jungle cinema and observatory where kids can spy galaxies far, far away with Ali Shameem, the only certified astronomer in the country. There's also a turtle-spotting beach and an ice-cream parlour (Eva's cheesecake flavour is devilishly good) and a treetop, Swiss Family Robinson-style restaurant reached by a wobbly rope bridge. The latest addition is The Den, the biggest children's zone in the Indian Ocean. Entered through a tunnel, and kitted out with clocks and treasure maps, it hides an exhaustive list of fabulous playthings: a pirate ship, jungle zip-line, water slide, DJ room and hands-on kitchen. The clever PER AQUUM group has clocked that the honeymooners at Huvafen Fushi may want to return to the Maldives with some additions to their party. That's where sister hotel Niyama comes in. Staff smile at sticky fingers, scoop up tantrummy toddlers and debate football teams with teens. The new island, Play, has at its heart a gleaming kids' club, run by an unflappable Scott Dunn-trained team. With circus-top-themed rooms, a marathon of activities, the softest sand-floored playground and a water park, it's a spirited hideaway for children, a refuge from the equatorial sun. For parents of smaller ones, the fact that the club takes kids from 12 months old is worth ordering another gin and tonic for. For those with tech-obsessed tweens, there's a separate games zone with Xboxes, computers and an awesome pair of simulator rooms: one for cinema screenings and one with kit for golf, shooting and goal-scoring practice. MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF CHINA H.E. XI JINPING

Known as “a string of pearls that God left in the human world” and with its simple and warm-hearted people and picturesque scenery, Maldives is a magnet attracting tourists from around the world. But hearing it one hundred times from others is not as good as seeing it once, and I look forward to visiting your beautiful island country on the Indian Ocean.
The friendly exchanges between China and Maldives have a long history. As early as in China’s Ming Dynasty, the famous Chinese navigator Zheng He twice called at Maldives with his expedition fleet, and King Yusof of Maldives sent his envoys to China three times. Today, ancient Chinese porcelain ware and coins unearthed locally are on display in the National Museum in Malé, which bear witness to the friendly interactions between the two countries.

In 1972, China and Maldives established diplomatic relations. In the 40-plus years since then, our two countries have always respected, trusted and supported each other, setting a good example of countries different in size treating each other as equals, living in amity and engaging in mutually beneficial cooperation. Recent years have seen growing exchanges in various fields and enhanced practical cooperation between the two countries. Two-way trade and particularly tourism have grown rapidly. China has been the largest source of tourists for Maldives for four years running. To the Chinese, especially the young people, Maldives is an ideal holiday destination and a romantic retreat. China has endeavored to assist Maldives in growing its economy and improving people’s livelihood. All this shows that China and Maldives are not only sincere friends who trust and help each other, we are also partners in the common pursuit of development and prosperity.

As an old Chinese poem puts it, “The river is wide at full tide; a strong wind sends the sail surging forward.” China-Maldives relations are now on a new upward trajectory and face major opportunities. We should seize the opportunities and keep the momentum of our growing relations, boost our traditional friendship, intensify cooperation in various fields, and lift China-Maldives relations to a new height.

China and Maldives should strengthen political mutual trust. China appreciates the Maldivian government’s commitment to the one China policy and its abiding and valuable support to China on issues affecting China’s core interests. China always stands for equality of all countries, whether big or small. China will, as always, respect the choice of the political system and development path made by the Maldivian people in light of your national conditions.

China and Maldives should intensify practical cooperation. China calls for the creation of a 21st century maritime silk road. Strategically located in the Indian Ocean, Maldives was an important stop of the ancient maritime silk road. China welcomes Maldives to get actively involved in building the 21st century maritime silk road by leveraging its own strength. China looks forward to working with Maldives to speedily translate this cooperation initiative into reality so as to boost the development and prosperity of all countries and the rise of Asia.

China and Maldives should boost cultural and people-to-people exchanges. After Fascinating Maldives, a program produced by China Central Television station, was aired in China, more and more Chinese tourists have been attracted to Maldives by its coconut trees, clear waters and quiet beaches. China also welcomes more Maldivians to go to China for sightseeing and study. Our two governments should further facilitate travel exchanges and our airline companies should open more routes. With these efforts, we will feel close even when we are thousands of miles away from each other.

China and Maldives should enhance coordination on multilateral issues. Maldives is an important partner of China in South Asia and the Indian Ocean. China will continue to pursue close cooperation with Maldives on climate change, human rights and other issues. China hopes that Maldives will have a greater say and play a unique role in international and regional affairs.

The ship of China-Maldives friendship has set sail. I am confident that with our joint efforts, it will brave winds and waves and forge ahead toward an even brighter future.
