Maldives stand was awarded as the most active stand at the 19th Annual East Mediterranean International Tourism and Travel fair held from 22 – 25 January 2015 in Tuyap International Exhibition Center, Istanbul, Turkey. This is the second time that Maldives has won this award.
The award presented by the organizers of EMITT was received by Mr. Hussain Lirar, the Deputy Minister of Tourism. Maldives competed with other destinations such as Greece, India, Egypt, Yemen, Malaysia etc. for this award.
“EMITT is one of the top tourism fairs in world especially in Europe; our participation in the fair has been a huge success with the joint effort of the industry members and receiving such an award shows the interest of Turkish agents towards the destination. With the help of EMITT we anticipate to make Maldives the most preferred holiday destination among Turkish travelers”, Deputy Minister of Tourism of tourism stated in his comment after receiving the award.
Maldives stand grabbed a huge amount of attention from both trade and public visitors who attended the fair and the interest for Maldives shows the potential that Turkish market holds. Turkey is a very important market to Maldives in terms of the potentiality. With a stable economy the forecast for the outbound travel from the market is very much positive. From January to December 2014, 8,668 Turkish tourists visited Maldives. With the favorable market conditions and good connectivity established by Turkish Airlines the arrivals from Turkey are expected to increase in the upcoming years.
