Jumeirah Vittaveli Wins Green Globe

Jumeirah Vittaveli resort of Maldives is known for being a trend setting and pioneering resort. Testament to this is the resort’s popularity with the continuous stream of visitors and the many accolades it has won over the years. Furthermore, Jumeirah Vittaveli was awarded the prestigious Green Globe certification recently.

Green Globe is the worldwide sustainability system based on internationally-accepted criteria for sustainable operation and management of travel and tourism businesses. Accordingly this award is a world class endorsement of Jumeirah Vittaveli for the work it has been doing towards preserving and promoting the environmental causes. Green Globe also revealed that Jumeirah Vittaveli has a comprehensive Sustainability Management Plan.

Here at Jumeirah Vittaveli all our colleagues place such a high importance on working towards a more sustainable future, particularly in the Maldives, where it is essential to increase the awareness of sustainability and protecting the environment we live and work in.”

Efforts taken by Jumeirah Vittaveli towards sustainability includes:

– Daily and monthly monitoring of all energy and water consumption is in place with targets set at a 3% reduction rate for this year

-Installation of LED lighting throughout the property and timer controlled outdoor lighting

-In the resort’s gardens only native plants or drought resistant plants are grown in landscaped areas to minimize water use

-To reduce its carbon footprint the resort has its own in-house water bottling plant that saves approximately 100,000 plastic bottles a year

-Eco-friendly products are preferred that have a minimum impact on the environment such as Fair Trade or eco-certified items

Jumeirah Vittaveli uses an innovative sustainable communication tool called Green Book to educate guests on local history and culture. The resort also assists the economy of neighboring island communities by purchasing organic produce from them.
