Raa Atoll has remained untouched by tourism over the last decades and around 80 uninhabited islands of the atoll is preserved in pristine condition. The opening of Loama Resort Maldives at Maamigili gives the opportunity for visitors to explore the largely unexplored atoll and its hidden secrets.
The resorts website describes the place as being “a single perfect teardrop in an infinite ocean of life, Maamigili is a stunning natural tapestry of sun-kissed lagoons, palm-fringed beaches and picture-perfect panoramas spread over 100 hectares of pristine coral reef within the Raa Atoll. And amidst this untainted paradise lies Loama Resort, a quietly pulsating heart of rustic charm, idyllic beauty and exuberant culture that defines the Maldives.”
During the construction of the resort, a treasure trove of ancient Chinese artifacts was discovered. This led to the resort opening a museum displaying important collection of artifacts from key periods of Maldivian history, from an extensive collection of 15th Century Chinese porcelain to the discovery of a pair of 11th Century sunken baths on the island. This museum is the first and only licensed museum operating at a Maldivian resort.
