Over 300 representatives from across the tourism industry of Maldives gathered at Adaaran Select Hudhuranfushi on Friday, 4th September to attend the first Tourism Industry Gala (TIG). Hosted by the Maldives Marketing & PR Corporation (MMPRC), the evening was honoured by the Chief Guest, H. E. Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor, Vice President and presence of other dignitaries from the government and private sector.
Guests were warmly welcomed to the island with traditional boduberu music. The evening started with acoustic music by Shiuz, followed by the introduction of MMPRC team and welcome speech by Mr. Abdulla Ziyath, Managing Director of MMPRC, speeches from the Chief Guest, H. E. Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor, Vice President; and Hon. Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, special guest of tourism industry and member of parliament. The programme included a video presentation of the Visit Maldives Year 2016 events and a pictorial collage of the tourism industry fairs and events followed by dinner. Music performances by Equatic vibe and dances by Theatre Mirage made the event more colourful. A raffle was drawn amongst the visitors and exciting prizes were given away. The evening ended with a display of fireworks enjoyed by the guests.
Mr. Abdulla Ziyath thanked the tourism industry for the support in promoting the destination and seeked to join hands to reach the targets of Visit Maldives Year 2016.
TIG will be an annual event and is the first of its kind to be held. It has opened a new avenue to update and renew partnerships as well as meet new faces and build connections in the industry.
