Increase in British Arrivals to the Maldives

The British arrivals to the Maldives had an 8 percent increase from last year. In the first quarter of 2015 the British arrivals numbers was at 25158, while last year for the same period the number was at 23297.

The increase in British tourist arrivals to the Maldives was revealed by the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC). The Maldives tourism industry is determined to capitalize on this increased number of British arrivals to the country.

Regarding the surge in British visitors Mohamed Adam, deputy managing director of MMPRC said: “We’re very pleased to see an increase in visitors from the UK and that the Maldives is still one of the UK’s favourite holiday destinations. With our tourism offering continuing to expand and the destination celebrating its 50th Anniversary of Independence this year in July, we are confident the Maldives will continue to perform well during 2015 and look forward to welcoming more visitors from the UK.”

MMPRC has also launched a campaign called “Visit Maldives Year”, targeted to achieve tourist arrival numbers of 1.5 million in 2016. Also many new tourist resorts will be opened in the coming year offering more choices for holidaymakers.

Maldives has always remained popular with the British visitors. Since the commencement of the tourism industry, British arrivals have remained constant for the most part. High profile Britishers and celebrities like Prince William and the Beckham family has visited the Maldives in the recent past.
